Institute Priorities in 2010/11
Transforming good ideas into workable solutions for an improving NHS
'The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement supports the NHS to transform healthcare for patients and the public by rapidly developing and spreading new ways of working, new technology and world class leadership.'
At the NHS Institute:
- we are facilitators of change for improvement working alongside the frontline of the NHS
- we are central to helping deliver quality and value to improve care for patients and efficiency for the service
- we interpret NHS policy change and work with local staff to generate practical solutions
- we are the NHS’ own improvement agency, pioneers in effective innovation, continually learning and translating great ideas from other sectors
- we understand the NHS because we are part of the NHS.
Our challenge for 2010/11 - to help the NHS deliver the changes required on an industrial scale to meet the cost and quality agenda (QIPP), and to provide skilled support to help NHS organisations implement our products, including new GP Consortia. We will support and develop capacity building for leaders of improvement and identify NHS people, who can make this possible through our mobilisation campaign.
What we can do for the NHS
Our message for 2010/11 is all about embracing change because being adaptable, flexible and open to new ways of working is how we work best and how we can work with our colleagues in the service to meet the demands of delivering healthcare while we emerge as a nation from the economic recession.
At the NHS Institute we are very aware of the challenging times ahead for the NHS, ourselves included, and we believe we are uniquely positioned and have the ability to help meet the demands of increasing quality and efficiency with more limited resources through each of our Directorate’s, one of which is the Leadership Directorate.
NHS Institute Leadership Directorate contributes to the five National Leadership Council work streams with particular emphasis on the right approach to the cost and quality challenge. We will identify national activities that can add the greatest value, using quality and productivity as a unifying principle. We will continue to deliver our successful and high impact, popular leadership programmes:
- The Graduate Management Training Scheme
- Board Level Development
- Medical Leadership
- Internship Programme
- Solutions Internship Programme
- Breaking Through initiatives
