The NHS is a nationwide service with national directive but local challenges. We do our best to accommodate location preferences, but placements could be offered in any part of England.

A separate graduate scheme operates in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

North West Strategic Health Authority

Who we are: Chief Executive: Mr Mike Farrar, CBE

NHS North West was established on 1st July 2006 as part of the move by the Department of Health to strengthen primary care trusts. NHS North West has replaced the three former strategic health authorities in Cumbria and Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

North East Strategic Health Authority

Who we are: Chief Executive: Mr David Stout

The North East Strategic Health Authority was launched on 1 July 2006, to replace the two previous strategic health authorities for Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham and Teesside.

Yorkshire and The Humber Strategic Health Authority

Who we are: Chief Executive: Mr Bill McCarthy

The Yorkshire and the Humber Strategic Health Authority was created on 1st July 2006 following the merger of North and East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire Strategic Health Authority, South Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority and West Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority.

East Midlands Strategic Health Authority

NHS East Midlands is the headquarters of the NHS in the East Midlands and was formally established on 1 July 2006, replacing the former Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Strategic Health Authority and Trent Strategic Health Authority.

East Of England Strategic Health Authority

Who we are: Chief Executive: Mr Neil McKay

We are a new SHA, formally established on 1 July 2006. We cover Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Of the 10 new SHAs in England, we are one of the largest geographically and serve a population of approximately 5.4 million people We will oversee and support the work of primary care, hospital, ambulance, and mental health trusts in this region.
