We’ll show you the way

As you’d expect, our selection process is rigorous. So while we try to progress everyone’s application as quickly as possible, it still takes some time. This page will give you some idea of the process and what to expect throughout.

There are three key stages to the process:

Stage one

Application and on-line testing

The application window is open from 7th September to 2pm, 14th December 2009. We're using the latest approaches to initial screening to ensure that we both get a good fit. The tools that you complete provide us with accurate data to help make a decision whilst at the same time ensuring fairness and easy accessibility. The tools will also give you some insight into what working life as a trainee can be like, enabling you to make an informed decision as to whether we are right for you. Once an application has been submitted, applicants are invited to complete the following on-line testing tools:

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Numerical reasoning
  • Situational judgement test
  • Motivational questionnaire

All tests must be completed by 4pm, 17th December 2009. Successful applicants of stage one will be contacted from 6th January 2010. We strongly encourage you to complete your online tests as early as possible.

Stage two

Interview – 18th January 2010 – 5th February 2010.

Successful candidates from Stage One will be invited to attend an Interview. These will be held at venues around the country and is a structured competency-based interview conducted by two NHS managers. Questions will be asked around some of the competencies found on this site. To ensure you have the greatest chance of acquiring your desired time slot and location for your interview, please book early.

Stage three

24 hour National Leadership Challenge – Warwick, 1st March 2010 – 12th March 2010.

Successful candidates from Stage Two will be invited to attend the National Leadership Challenge which will give you an insight into a day in the life of NHS managers. Overnight accommodation is provided.

Offers

We expect offers to be made week commencing 22 March 2010.
