Work Experience
Structured to give insight and opportunities for learning, trainees undertake a number of jobs in host NHS organisations and a 'flexi-placement'. Throughout, you'll have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate a range of both specialism and personal competencies, and to meet work-based objectives supported by programme and placement managers.
Work Placements and Competencies
Through work placements designed, co-ordinated and delivered by placement managers and programme managers, you can expect to achieve and be required to demonstrate significant personal development. Graduate Scheme staff and the network of managers across your region provide additional support and guidance both during your time on the scheme and in launching your NHS career. In summary, trainees are provided with a support network that is second to none.
All trainees work to a competency profile which is designed to equip you for both your specific chosen career area and the start of your leadership journey. These comptency profiles have been specifically created for trainees by managers in the NHS and Department of Health, and professional bodies such as CIMA, CIPFA, Monitor and CIPD, thus ensuring that they're relevant for future chief executives and executive directors.
Flexi-Placement
Your two month 'flexi-placement' will relate to your chosen specialism and is an opportunity to experience innovation and improvement agendas in alternative organisations: building relationships; widening your horizons; providing new experiences; developing skills and awareness, whilst still developing specialism competencies. You will arrange your flexi-placement and will have the opportunity to complete the placement outside the NHS if you wish. Some previous trainees have spent their flexi-placements in a variety of the UK’s top organisations and have brought back valuable skills and experiences to the NHS.
